Words Like Waves - poetry compilation
The compilation of these poems and pieces of prose happened over a few years. Time spent living by the ocean and forming a formidable relationship with the sea and island life served as great inspiration for much of the body of work. The majority of these pieces were written during a period when I was coming to terms with several life changes that had me deeply reflecting not just on life, love, and growing older but also on what it is like to lose sight of yourself and the things you once expected you would have accomplished.
As I entered new roles of becoming a wife and a mother, I quickly realized that there were many things I no longer had the time or energy to focus on. I felt like a part of me had been laid to rest as this newfound purpose arose. I remained desperate to hold on to hobbies and aspects of myself I felt defined my person, at war with the changes as they took place.
This collection of poems catalogs the birth and the death of who I was, who I became, and who I was still trying to embody.
These poems are not just about life and love but self-awareness and the many deaths our ego must go through along the way.
